About the event
Dock Ellis was a larger-than-life baseball player whose career spanned the 1970s. When a manager on the Texas Rangers insisted that players on the team no longer drink at hotel bars while on the road, Dock fought it tooth and nail. This fictional retelling of Dockβs struggle finds him confronting then-Rangers owner Brad Corbett over the rule, demanding it be dropped. Corbett agrees on one condition: Dock tells him the true story of his legendary no-hitter, which was not public at the time. What follows is a tense and hilarious exchange that tackles race, representation, alcoholism, and that fateful story that would go on to define Dockβs life and career (whether he wanted it to or not).
