About the event
Melville’s Moby-Dick is the foundational text of American Literature writ large: an eternal cypher, a wellspring of inspiration, craft, erudition, and a near-scriptural handbook for the writer’s mission of composing literature to weather the tides of time. By turns inscrutable and ecstatic, monolithic and myriad, no modern novelist’s life-long project is complete without having gone toe-to-toe with Herman Melville’s leviathan.
Join novelist K Hank Jost, alongside a cohort of dedicated fellow writers, for 8-weeks of discovery, analysis, and composition toward one’s own hard-won novel project. By delving into Melville’s depths students will come to know the techniques requisite for the composition of a text timeless, personal, and complex.
Over the course of the eight weeks, students will generate the full outline of their novel and complete said novel’s first 20-40,000 words…
